End Student Hunger

GENYOUth established the END STUDENT HUNGER FUND to assist schools nationwide in their extraordinary effort to provide school meals safely to students during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Heading into the “new normal” does not eliminate an urgent need for solutions to end student hunger. Based on GENYOUth’s recent survey of over 1,000 school nutrition professionals, student hunger/food insecurity remains a vital concern. Hunger disproportionately impacts children from low income and minority families making the crisis most urgent among Black, Hispanic, urban, and rural youth. The USDA recently made an unprecedented decision to extend universal school meals through the 2021-22 school year, allowing schools to provide safe, healthy meals FREE OF CHARGE to ALL students regardless of household income as the pandemic continues to threaten the food and nutrition security of our most vulnerable. Schools will now need to feed more students than ever. Schools urgently need additional funding to cover school meal delivery resources and equipment that schools aren’t funded or budgeted for.

This fall, schools expect to be feeding more kids, in more locations, with service during additional dayparts. There is an urgent need for help.

To meet this unprecedented need, GENYOUth launched a national campaign, “END STUDENT HUNGER FUND” A two-pronged initiative, the campaign invited schools to apply for grants up to $3,000 per school building to purchase supplies for meal distribution and delivery. To date, GENYOUth with the support of our partners has raised over $14 million in cash and in-kind resources, which has supported over 10,000 schools.
