GENYOUth and CUB Announce
“May Days To Feed Hungry Children”
In-store Fundraising Campaign
Monies Raised Will Support Minnesota and Illinois School and
Summer Feeding Programs
Minneapolis, MN (April 29, 2021) – CUBannounced today that it is working with GENYOUth, a national non-profit dedicated to creating healthier school communities, to launch “May Days To Feed Hungry Kids,” a month-long in-store fundraising campaign throughout May to help feed food insecure children in Minnesota and Illinois.
The “May Days To Feed Hungry Children” campaign, which will run from May 1 through May 31 in all 80 CUB stores, will provide shoppers with the opportunity to make a donation of either $1, $3 or $5, or round-up their grocery purchase total at the register. All funds collected will be distributed to local Minnesota and Illinois schools in CUB store neighborhoods to support child nutrition and meal delivery programs that are a vital resource for food insecure children who depend on school meals – whether during the school year or throughout the summer – for their daily nourishment.
At the heart of CUB’s charitable giving is a strong commitment to corporate citizenship and a belief that every business has a role in creating stronger communities. “We believe it is vital for CUB to take a strong stand in addressing the food insecurity needs of our communities and the neighbors who live in them,” said Mike Stigers, CUB CEO. “With COVID-19, we have seen a dramatic increase in food insecurity in Minnesota from as high as 19 percent in certain parts of the state in 2020. Many kids don’t know where their next meal will come from and that’s why our ‘May Days To Feed Hunger Kids’ is so important. It gives us an opportunity to do our part to help alleviate hunger among our community’s most vulnerable population – children.”
“As a school administrator I know that the future of youth depends on our commitment to supporting the whole child, and that includes ensuring all children have the nutrition they need to fuel their growth both mentally and physically,” said Patrick Smith, Principal, Maple Grove Middle School, Osseo Area Schools in Minnesota. “For food insecure children, school meals and summer feeding programs provide a critical lifeline for their daily nourishment and I applaud CUB for raising awareness and funds to help deliver meals to kids in Osseo and communities statewide.”
“GENYOUth is grateful for the support of CUB and its customers, as helping to feed Minnesota’s, Illinois’s and the nation’s kids are among the most important things we can do,” said Alexis Glick, GENYOUth of CEO. “Now more than ever children, especially the 30 million who rely on school meals for their daily nourishment, need our help as we believe the only hunger a child should have is a hunger to learn!”
